For Sustainability, Wood Leads by Example

When the green movement began to gain momentum about 10 years ago, Timber Products Company was caught a little off guard.  Why?  Because many of the so-called green initiatives were things we had been doing for decades.

The best example is how we manage our forestlands.  When certification programs like the Sustainable Forestry Initiative were introduced, we jumped on board since we saw it as a way to be recognized for the good stewardship we had practiced for years, plus SFI gave us ways to get better. This is a common theme with many wood products companies. A recent article in the July 2010 issue of The Merchant does a good job of explaining how wood producers see the green movement as a perfect fit for their business.
